The traditional approach of strength materials applied to failure unidirectional fiber reinforced composites is examined in view the mechanisms observed. While elastic limit isotropic such as metals given by measured yield and reflects manifestation underlying crystalline slip processes that not case for are orthotropic have different independent operative under axial tension, compression, transverse in-plane shear. paper discusses why generalization theories textured symmetry cannot be used describing composites.
